1982 Roosevelt Dime With Copper Ring Raised All Around It

    I recently found this in circulation, seems to be in very good condition. How does this happen, and is this worth anything?

    Yeah, I have one. I like to know the value. But it's a cent.

    Hi, Walter! Welcome to the neighborhood.

    I can't tell from the photo, but if the reeding on the edge is flattened, it is probably Post Mint Damage (PMD). One method of doing this is called "spooning". Someone keeps tapping the edge with the bottom of a spoon to flatten it and make the rim higher than it normal.

    It's very common. You "spoon" the coin until you get it to the point that you can drill out the center and make a ring of the coin.

    I used to do that as kid 50 years ago.
