You are [IMG] to CoinTalk rhondalynn, but you would be even more welcome if you would share a picture of your coin with us, and provide a little more information so we can try to help you fully ID it.

What is the weight, diameter and apparent metallic composition?

I'm guessing that it is the size of a nickel based on your description of the date position, but does it really weigh 5 grams and have a diameter of 21mm, with no reddish or brown copper showing on the edge? [IMG]

The design rim is extremely narrow in 1982 quarters. Even a very slight misalignment will put the date right at the edge of the coin. This effect is accentuated in late die states. I suspect you have a normal quarter.

Yes I understand the rim is very narrow 1982 quarter. I am in the process of getting a picture of the coin on here.
The odd thing about the quarter is the quarter absolutley doesn't have any ridges at all where they are on all other 1982 quarter.
    Look for picture soon.
    Thank You

Wow. Yeah, they sure are supposed to have ridges. Sounds a lot like if it is an error a quarter struck on a nickel planchet. I'll sure keep my eyes out for pics.

I got it out of a coke machine where I work. I'm gonna try and have a pic on here by the tonight or tomm night. It sure is odd.

That means its weight and metallic composition are correct, otherwise the machine's mechanism would not have rejected it, not routed it to the change tube. Sorry. :(

Neat. From the way it sounds, it sure does sound odd. Does it look at all like this?
