I just went through a few coin rolls and found this 1982 P Penny. I weighed it on my scale and it weighed 2.5 grams. The small date copper plated zinc is the rare one if I'm not mistaken. I can't seem to tell the difference between them. That is the reason why I'm posting this one. The other 1982 Pennies I have weigh 3.1 grams. This is the first one I have that weighs 2.5 grams. Could this be one of the rare ones that is suppose to be valuable?
About half of the 1982 cents are 2.5 g and the other half 3.1g. None are rare by any sense unless you get into the very highest grades (and that is for most coins). There were BILLIONS of each type minted.
It is only among 1982-D cents that there exists an ultra-rarity. All 4 Philly 1982 varieties are fairly common.
Thanks guys!! I'm glad to be a member of this site. Now I know I'm looking for the 1982 D Small date. Also, If I find one, is it suppose to weigh 2.5 grams of 3.1 grams?
There's only 1 1982-D small date copper. You can look for another one, but they made billions of these coins. If one falls in your lap, OK. But it's really a waste of time to look for it. There are plenty of other enjoyable things that are worth your time. I believe another one will pop up one day, but it's not going to be you or I who discovers it. You are 30-40 times more likely to win the Powerball, than you are to find this coin.
Don't get hostile because I asked a simple question. You ever heard of the saying, " A closed mouth won't get fed." Evidently, you haven't because you wouldn't have asked me that. Why have this site here if you don't want anyone asking questions? Isn't that what the site is used for?
