Okay, let me try this again. Only with a die clash this time! Don't shoot me down! As usual my photos leave something to be desired. I found this in the first nickel roll I have ever searched, so I'm pretty happy about it. You know I get excited about the smallest things!
Maybe I'm using the wrong terminology, but to the left and right of Jefferson's head. Also, there appears to be some kind of "doubling" or something right below his lip, and the right edge of the building. The mint mark also has where the metal is pushed out around it. Again, I apologize for the picture quality. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't capture the details very well.
Although your photos don't show the clashing well, it appears to be a common die clash for a Jefferson Nickel - good eyes.... The doubling you see is probably 'ejection/mechanical' doubling, or it's the effect of the coin being struck from a worn or overused die - 'die deterioration' doubling.
Thank you! I had to get it back out and look at it and you can't make out any details of the other side of the coin on the other sides, but the outlines are there, almost like it was struck too hard. I really appreciate your input! I'm getting ready to post a 1982 D (small date I believe) with what I think is some kind of doubling on the mint mark. As I have had a hard time discerning die doubling I want to get some input on it.
