Hi everyone and Happy 2019! Wishing us all a year full of happiness and prosperity I just joined today and been trying to learn more about numismatics. I am not a member of any grading company yet and I just find this more of a hobby. I still have a long long way to go, therefore, I would like to ask for your patience with my inquiries especially the experts. Regarding this coin, it looks like the WDDO-004 but it does not match the die markers hence this one has what seems to be a die cracks as shown on the photos. Are the devices fat enough to be a DD? I would greatly appreciate all of your inputs and opinions. Thank you.
Howdy @victoriarose28 - Welcome to CoinTalk!! One of our experts will be along to address your questions Hope you're enjoying 2019 so far!
Hi Vicki, though I'm not an expert on anything, I will try to address your questions until the Cavalry gets here. Offhand, I would say you have no doubling to speak of. What you see around certain numbers and letters has several names but is most commonly called " die deterioration doubling ". The dies used to strike the coins begin to wear out and as they do, they cause the struck letters to spread out making them look wider or " doubled ". Now the good news is you appear to have two die cracks, one from the top right corner of the MEMORIAL BUILDING to the rim, and the other from the bottom right corner of the MEMORIAL BUILDING to the rim. When the experts show up, they will explain things further and better. In the meantime , Thanks for posting, and Welcome to Coin Talk !!
It's a ddo . Which one, hard to tell from these dark images . But it's a ddo for sure .......... OP, what are you using to take your images . I might be able to help you get better images . Here's a #4 I took images of .
Thank you for the nice welcome @LaCointessa and for all your replies. @Rick Stachowski, thank you and my apologies with my photos. I just used a macro lens attached to my iPhone and I am really struggling with lighting issues.
