1982 Lincoln Possible Strike Thru

Discussion in 'Error Coins' started by DUSITN HADDOCK, Jan 18, 2017.

  1. The penny has obvious PMD but the word liberty seems to have had a Strike through or blockage of some sort.
Just didn't seem like enough damage around the word or with the mark it self to have been PMD? any thoughts

Yes, PMD! It's obvious that something hit the letters "RTY" diagonally.

Keep in mind, the die is a negative of the struck coin. Anything hitting the die would impact the fields first, before the letters. It's only a struck coin where the letters are the first thing touched. Not to mention the displaced metal we can see below and between RT.

Something did strike through the 3 letters..which caused the damage. But as explained, this is not a Mint Error Strike Through.
