Boom!!! First cent out of the roll... just chillin', diving into a roll of coins before winding it up for the night and I found this:

    1982 Zinc DDR0.jpg 1982 Zinc DDR2.jpg 1982 Zinc DDR3.jpg 1982 Zinc DDR5.jpg 1982 Zinc DDR6.jpg

Not heavy enough to be a DDR-001, but I'm thinking it might be a DDR-002 (I can't get a good read on the designers initials since it is so worn). The coin is beat up pretty bad, you know, being 30 years old and in circulation and all.

I didn't find a listing with good die markers... mine has a die crack which runs from the lower right of the monument, which I actually think is a common place to have die cracks.

What do you think, pretty spanky sweet? I only found 2 DDR listings for this year, are there more and I'm just not aware?

    Thoughts, questions, concerns, price estimates?

As always, thanks for entertaining my posts!

I looked a bit closer at the obverse and pulled these pics:

    Obverse_Shots0.jpg Obverse_Shots1.jpg Obverse_Shots2.jpg Obverse_Shots3.jpg

First two pics are of the ST in TRUST, the the LI in LIBERTY, then the GO of GOD.

Seems like a bunch of conveniently placed PMD or possibly a DDO as well?

    Thoughts, concerns, controversies?

Is it a large or small date?

No matter, I think you have something. I particularly like the I in LIBERTY. My inexperience wants to go with the safe MDD, but it exhibits the notch and roundness of doubling that would have occurred from the die itself.

this does indeed look like a previously unknown DDR. I would reccomend that you contact Charles Daughtry at WWW.coppercoins.com
and have him take a look at it. tell him Richard Ziegler suggested you look him up. He did all the research and publication work on the 1982 ddr-001 when I discovered it.

    good luck

First off, thank you for your feedback/inputs (both of you)... it is much appreciated.

Here is a pic of the date. The large date/small date always baffles my feeble brain. Is the "rule", if it lines up at top then it's a big date? Pardon my ignorance. Either way, this is the date.

    Thanks again for the info/feedback!

large date, on the small date the 2 is much more defined

Generally, for 1982 cents, it is the large date copper that is known for a DDO and the small date zinc for a DDR.

I believe this is a previously unknown Doibled die reverse for 1982

I think you may be right on this. My "generally" comes from Cherrypickers' Guide, Vol. 1, Ed. 5, pg. 153.

I understand that most people think if its not in the book it probably doesn't exist. I once thought that until I discovered the 1982-ddr-001 in 2007. This is definately worth a look from an expert and I have emailed Charles Daughtry and suggested he come on and take a look.

Correct. At coppercoins.com, there are almost 3,000 varieties listed up through the present.

Regarding Charles Daughtrey, he is retired however, I would contact Bob Piazza by email at mustbebob1@embarqmail.com (he is listed among the many names in the first few pages of the Cherrypickers' Guide I cited earlier.

PS YOU ARE A COIN ICON FOR THE DISCOVERY!
