Hello again everyone! I found this coin a while ago and didn't know what to make of it so I set it aside. I was looking at it this morning under the microscope and it appears to be struck through metal. At first glance, I had thought metal was scraped off of the rim but there is to much metal and the rim looks pretty much normal. The strike on the Obverse very distorted to say the least and the strike on the Reverse looks pretty weak in the center. Could this be a strike through or just some very strange post mint damage?
Everything you see on the coin occurred to it well after it was in circulation. It did not leave the Mint like that - no error of any type, sorry..
cool thanks. I peeled back the metal and the letters underneath are very clear. It kind of makes you wonder what some of these coins have gone through to get in the condition they are in. Thanks again.
