F3D14531-C247-4235-9449-383E8F02FFBD.jpeg On your favorite topic:woot:...., I would like to know if this is how a 1982 small date looks like. The # 2 looks different than the several others I have so I am trying to confirm if this is the small date to keep it as visual reference, thanks all

    Winner winner chicken dinner.

PS - I'm really not sure why there are so many problems distinguishin 82 SD from LD. They are clearly different. Not like say, 70S SD and LD,

I don't know how much difficult it is for others but the issue I have is that the 2s in the large date also seem to vary quite a lot so it is not like you are looking at the exact same 2 every time you find one. I have about 15 large dates and of those about 70% look slightly different due to the wear and tear. So there is always a doubt. But, I saw this one and it is finally the first one I get that is a small date so now I can visually compare and be sure of what I have. Even if you have the pict in the internet showing you what the LD and SD look like it is not the same until you find one.

I've never seen a large date 82 that even closely resembles a small date 82. The SD's are usually thinner and there is a definite curve to them when compared to the LD. I guess it could be due to the wear/tear like you said. But I still think there is enough difference to be able to differentiate between the two fairly easily.
I do agree that the best way to be able to tell the difference is when you actually have them in hand to compare. Now you do, so you should be good to go :)

Yes, also don't forget many of you have been looking at coins for ever, lol, when you are new to the hobby it takes time to get the hang of it. :shame:

Yup, the 1970-S SD/LD is the toughest one to learn, by far.

Good luck. Even some highly experienced people are pretty bad at that one.

The line from the top of the 2 to the bottom of it is straight though. Compare that with a small date.

The easiest way for me to tell the difference between the two, is that the two on the small date is below the 8. Where as to the two on a large date is slightly above the 8 .
