Hoping I've found a 1982 D small date cent (it's 2.5 so zinc) and was looking for a little confirmation. Thanks
Thank you, trying to get a good example of the pieces I want CRHing before I just buy them; this isn't exactly the best example but at least I'm sure what it looks like.
The 1982-D SM DT bronze cent has now been discovered by a cherrypicker...another rare one to look for!
For a small amount of money you can go on eBay and Buy a complete set of the 7 1982 Lincoln Cents- Copper= 1982-P Lg, 1982-P Sm, 1982-DF Lg. Zinc= 1982-P Sm, 1982-P Lg, 1982-D Sm. 1982-D Lg.
That's like saying without the 1955 double die, your Lincoln Cent set is incomplete. The 82-D in Bronze is pretty rare.
Yes I'd think if I were collecting at a chance to retire early I'd get pretty discouraged quickly. I enjoy the CRH at night after getting the kids to bed. Right now I'm doing 1970-1989 all mints; S giving me the most trouble after 5 boxes of pennies (keep all wheats of course). My rule is I have to find the cent first, if it's in ok condition I'll keep it but if its beat up I go down to the coin shop and buy a nice replacement (I seem to be getting more and more snooty about what goes in ). Got a 1909 VDB, nothing special but the oldest coin I've got so far.
That's what makes this hobby a challenge. It's like having a complete set of Silver Eagles without the 1995-W.
I got blessed with a few early sets, That changed the way I look at coins, And, those that have a place in my collection. Even when you go to the coin shop, take a chance at looking through "all" the specific dates, you want to buy, inspect them for their individuality. Buy, what you like, but don't regret it. It will be a learning experience. Some of my favorite coins are the ones taken from the wild.
Great site for Lincoln cent variety information: http://www.lincolncentresource.com/smalldates/1982.html Here's how my brain works on the '82 cents: The 2 on the Large date looks more like an L The 2 on the Small date looks more like a backward S
