...and, you should know that you can be fined or even jailed for injuring our national bird.

Most definitely! I consider myself fortunate in that I have an American Eagle that lives along the creek by my house. I see him about once a week and what a sight he is. So majestic! Pearched, on the ground eating or soaring he is a sight to behold. He is about 7-8 years old. He's hard to see but he's on the ground eating last spring.

Enlarge the black dot in the center. That's him. All I had was my cell phone. IMG_0345.JPG

All of the damaged areas are PMD. Looks like someone was throwing things at it. Still, it's an 1982 quarter.

you can be fined or jailed, yes for any animal that someone injures, not sure if your talking coins or both

We have quite a few nesting pairs in our area of SWFLA. One nest even has an "Eagle Cam" installed, and the local news stations air videos of the eaglets that have hatched.

Let's put it this way, if someone on BoobTube claimed that damaging the eagle on the coin would be subject to fines and/or jail, I'm sure there would be someone who would believe it.

No cams here but we do have a nest with 2 in it over by the Susquehanna River. It's built on a high power line. 6' logs the size of my arm in that nest. Absolutely amazing.

The one good thing about a mangled quarter is ... it's still worth 25 cents.

Yeah, we do have some nests in our area that are 10' or so in diameter. Surprisingly, ospreys and owls are known to chase off the adult eagles and take over the nests.

That does happen. In South Central PA the Ospreys do that but the owls leave them alone. Different species I suspect.
