1982 d large date copper cent

    No. I think the poorly defined rim in that area is giving you that impression.

    don't get so singularly focused on one particular spot. For example, you can compare the rim by the date to the opposite side of the obverse and see the irregular rim internal edge. And it looks like there are rim irregularities on the reverse side of that area too.
