No.. 3.9g is within tolerance Only the 1983 copper is a transitional mint error is worth attributing.
Hope you can see the image of the date and liberty .It is the smal ,I have about 100 of the large date that weigh between 3.15 and 3.5 grams.
There's a huge difference between 3.9 and 3.09. 3.09 is close to the exact weight it should be. 3.9 is not in tolerance, which is +/- .13 from 3.11 2.98-3.24.
So in regards to the coin 1982 copper weighing3.09 g does anyone think it would have any value besides the value of a copper penny?
I admit my eyes are not what they once were, but that looks like an 82-P large date to me. I also have to respectfully disagree with Paddy; an 82-D small date copper* you would make for an excellent find. Edited: to add the key word.
The one shown? No, it does not, nor does being "copper" make it worth more than face regardless of what coinflation-type websites imply, or certain individuals would lead you to believe.
That is what I have seen on various sites ,but the weight not being at 3.11g is question,is that too low?
The weight can be between 2.98-3.24. Yes the weight of a copper cent is 3.11g and yours weighs 3.09g. That slight difference has no bearing. A 1982 Philly small date copper has some value in MS 65 (50 cents). Yours looks like AU. Maybe it's worth a dime. At most. Probably less. They made 17 billion cents in 1982.
If it weighs 3.1 it's copper if it weighs 2.5 it's zinc. Not sure what you are trying to say. Yes a zinc cent that weighs 3.09 grams would be an error. Generally you can tell most zinc/copper cents apart just by appearance. Some you can't and then the scale is a big help.
Don't feel bad... every one here has had their bubble burst at one time or another (or many, many, many times), and if any claim otherwise, they're lying. It happens to everyone, and should best be viewed as simply part of the learning process. And forgive me for saying so, but the coin, as shown, is t worth the mentioned $0.10, not even on the best of days, unfortunately. There's still simply a huge number out there is similar conditions for their to be any above-face premium now or in the foreseeable future.
