    2 coins:

We could literally go our entire lifetimes, see 15,000 more of these posts, and
never see a true 1982-D small date copper.

They get the date right about 98% of the time.
They get the mint right about 67% of the time.
They get the small date right about 2% of the time.
They know the weight about 1% of the time.
They know what composition that weight correlates to about 0.00001% of the time.

    *sigh*

I think out of billions of coins there might be another one out there that will turn up one day. But it will take everybody to properly identify and weigh their small date
Denver 1982's. It would take years. It's odd that there's just 1. If a sheet/ roll of copper planchets got in by mistake, there would be (3 dozen?) of these coins.
Even if it was just 1 stray copper planchet that got in accidentally, there could just as easily been a second one stuck in a machine somewhere from earlier copper minting, and tossed into a bin of zinc planchets.
Because, there have been a few later date (after 1982) Denver off metal (copper) cents discovered. 83-D 89-D and some others.

  12. Thanks everybody for your inputs. I'm seeing the difference now. I had a couple actual small dates and got excited, but yes weighed and we're zinc, of course.

I weigh all my 83's. Off metal doesn't have to just be 1982-D small date.
