Hey guys, I found these two while roll searching. The first seems to have a faint additional mint mark to the south of the 2 and the second one may have had something stamped underneath the date ? Any thoughts or opinions are greatly appreciated, because I have no clue as to what i have here. Thanks, gary
No one has responded although the page has been seen by many. I tried to outline the additional D on the first coin, but I am not very good at it. Still, maybe if I point it out, then someone can see it ? It cannot be a contact mark from another coin in the bag because it is not reversed. Could it be a restrike or something " It appears to be raised just barely and is faint. Thanks, gary
Interesting on the first piece, I think the second one is minor damage/error and not worth much, or at least it would be on a 90's issue, but I'd say it's definitely atypical for an 80's piece... hm... As for your statement on it not being a contact mark, because the letter "D" is an ambigram about its horizontal axis, this is not necessarily the case; the other coin would need to be upside down, though. If you mean it's not reversed as in it isn't slightly incused, that's a different story. I have to say I could make out the D from your first picture, certainly a striking likeness but I think we might be seeing ghosts in nothing... again I'm far from an expert, just my thoughts after a couple months of roll searching myself. I have to say gary, you have a damn great set of eyes! Maybe it's more evident in hand but that first coin seems so difficult to find when searching through rolls.... Consider this a free bump
Thanks. Studied the first one again and it is not incuse. Perhaps an accidental mark on the die as Desert Gem pointed out. Gonna toss it aside for now. Thans again, gary
