I just came across these and want to get some more knowlegable opinions. I think this is simply "machine" doubling on the date and mint mark. What caught my eye is that under a microscope the shelf at the bottom of the D is definitely green. In the same batch, there is another 1982-D with the same doubling only on the mint mark and the same green color. Comments?
Green on copper coins is usually one of two things - verdigris or PVC. Both are very harmful to copper.
Yes but this seems unusual. First it is only on the "shelf" under the D. It does not show on the doubling on the date or anywhere else. Second, by eye, it doesn't show the same in the photos, it is a bright green - not the darker green that I have seen from verdigris. And do you agree that it is simply machine doubling, not an RPM or something else exotic?
