Looks like it was struck with old dies (nearly terminal). Notice how motto characters closest to the rim are obscured caused by stress in the over-used dies. Another possibility is that it's a greaser, though not a very dramatic one. The weakness in the Lincoln bust may prove to have been caused by a grease-filled die. Either way, I don't believe it'll turn out to be anything worth a tremendous premium. -Brian Dryer coins that I have seen usually show distortion nearest the rim of the coin, and the majority of the time the text on the coin, whatever that may be, is unledgible.
Extremely late die state.....the worst I've seen for the issue. While it's not really worth much, it's a very interesting coin, I'd keep it and label is LDS.
I agree, late die state. You go through enough cases of cents and you come up on these pretty regularly. Surprisingly, there isn't more of them around with the volume of cents that was produced during that year. It's a keeper for novelty, less on value.
My 2cents :thumb:I agree!!! 1982+1983-P+D all coins 1c-50c they ran the Dies til they broke. I would think a MS-67-68 would be rarer than most error for the year of 1982+1983
