1981 S Type 1 and Type II (2) If you are having trouble determining the difference look at this.... I get a lot of emails via my site and over the phone and even at shows to explain the different between a Type 1 and a Type 2. This goes for every coin from the Cent - Dollar.... Side by Side (the right side has that hammered flat look -type 2) I hear it too many times people paying good money for something that isn't the real thing! Let me know what you think! Sorry for the photo copyright but I have too many people stealing my pictures for their ebay auctions..... -Wes Komka edited - I am sorry to have to edit out the pictures, I do understand your reason for needing to mark them. But please choose some different type of marking if you wish to post such pics here as they are a clear violation of our no self promotion rules.
Thanks. Thank you for a very nicely illustrated comparison and much appreciated explanation. I am wondering, may the 1979 type 1 and type 2 sets be distinguished in the same manner?
Thanks for the reply. No the 79 is much easier. The type 1 is a blog with the right side of the side is a straight line. The type 2 has a notch in the right side of the S (or normal s) -Wes
For some reason I was thinking the type 2 of 1979 was the type 1 of 1981. Maybe thats just for some denominations?
I will post the type 1 and type 2 79's later on today! To help explain but yes the type 2 79 is a normal s.
I posted a 1981-S type 2 in this thread here, just because of this post. Not sure if you can see it clearly, but I can always take it out of its holder and try the microscope on it. Anybody want me to try that?
also if it interests you, I posted in a lincoln folder the other day. The 81-S that I posted is a type II. You can probably see it pretty clearly if you check it out. If it's not clear enough. let me know, and I will post a pic of just the mintmark close up.
