1981 p quarter what type of doubling ?

    I think you're going to be told it's flat and shelf like. But let the experts tell you.

    I am no expert but will give my thoughts. See all those lines above the letters? That is the telltale sign of a very worn/deteriorated die. Since there is only a DDO listed for the 1981P I'm going to say it is DDD. The E looks Interesting but, it could just be a trick of the light. I cannot really explain it w/o holding the coin myself.

    The split serif looks good, but the doubling looks very flat and shelf-like and is not rounded and the same height as the rest of the letter.
