1981 one rare penny

    Can you post a picture of the Reverse side.. could be a Improperly Mixed Alloy

    I'm leaning towards a minor alloying issue, but could also be from cleaning. Hard to tell for certain. If it's alloying, the reverse should show straight lines in the same direction as well

    However, you can find this on many Lincoln cents. A lot of people call these "woodies" for the wood grained texture. Search the Coin Talk Archives for woodies and you'll find a lot of pics and explanations. Generally, any additional value depends on how interesting they look. Assuming yours is an improperly mixed alloy, it appears to be minor and the coin isn't in the best shape, so I don't think it would be worth much above face value.

    Lines scratched into the coin from a hard cleaning and the coin HAS been harshly cleaned.

    Value 1¢. 1 1/2¢ if you consider the bronze content.

    Roller lines from some part of the planchette production process is what I’ve read. I’ve got a bunch of these. As kids we called them jail bird Abes. Worth 1 cent.
