I found this in circulation back in Nov 1985. It is a series 1981-A $1.00 Federal Reserve Note with the plate number missing on the reverse. That is the small number on the back below the E in ONE beside the little berries. Serial #: C91309752A.

I found it because it had been announced in Coin World so people would be on the look out.

I am wondering if it is a listed variety or error and it's approximate value in VF Condition.

The note is completely normal except for the missing plate number. I am not set up for pics easily but a picture would not give you anything more.

Edward, Pics are necessary for determining the grade (for understanding potential value) and for assessing if this is a legitimate error. USARARE.com has a lot of errors you could peruse and compare against your note. There are a number of error note scams out there, so be forewarned. There are those scammers who bleach notes to remove some of the printed layers or falsify the denomination for use.

Would love to see pics or a scan if you can post them.

Look at the LEFT side for the back plate number and let me know if you see a 129 back plate.

Sounds to me like you found a "129" engraving error. A nice find if it is as they are not seen often.

I have a few and would sell one occasionally on ebay a few years back. Even a really worn note would usually fetch $20 or so for those that wanted to add one to their collection.

    Here's some information.
