I have a 1981 cent w/no mint mark, the rev. is doubled,I have seen this coin on the lists of key dates that have it listed as 1981 no mint, but has no description as of what to look for, or the value of such a coin. Does anyone have info. on this coin??
1981 pics. I do not have a very good camera ,so it does not pick up on the doubling like it should, the best shot I could get is this one, if you look at the last s in states you can definately see 2 ,also in the f
I zoomed in and the only place that looks doubled is the S in states and the image is rounded but it can be die deterioration doubling that;s what i think it is . Try and get a larger picture of the coin and i will give you a definate answer. i indicate were the doubling is in . red jazzcoins joe
I don;t think it's machine doubling look at the s if it's any doubling it will be die deterioration doubling jazzcoins joe
ok i see doubling on most the letters and the right side of the memorial. when i zoom on my comp thats what leads me to believe MD
I also believe it is machine doubling, there were a lot of that and Die Deterioration Doubling during the 80s. This link may help. Bill http://www.geocities.com/researchtriangle/facility/4968/educational1.html
Hi, Die doubling wouldn't look like that on only the one letter. It looks like machine doubling damage. If it were die deterioration doubling more of the lettering on STATES would be effected. Machine Doubling Damage is pretty random and can effect one letter. I also haven't heard of anything too out of the ordinary on the reverse of 1981 cents. There is a major DDR on a 1982 that I was involved in bringing out a little more than a year ago and of course, there is the 1983 DDR we are all familiar with. Thanks, Bill
Joe, I'm not trying to be a pain, but you are wrong in many of your posts. If you are so sure of what you are looking at, why are you asking? This coin is not a doubled die, plain and simple. You really need to take some time to study what doubled dies really do look like. Thanks, Bill
I never said this coin was a double die the pics are poor anyway I said possble. You are saying its machine doubling and your wrong machine doubling is not rounded its flat I s aid its die deteriotion doubling and it can effect one area of the coin I think you better do some more research on different doubling and double dies most of your posts are wrong with spooned coins also . i am not trying to be nasty here, but i know what a double die looks like i have been doing this for forty years so please don't question my ablity my friend. jazzcoins joe have a nice day
I am not going to get into it with you, I'll simply avoid your posts from here on in. BUT....this coin shows very little sign of any major die deterioration. It is a relatively normal MDS reverse on a 1981 cent. In looking at millions of coins, I have never seen a coin where there were no other signifigant signs of die deterioration that had doubling like this on one letter caused by die deterioration. I'm backin' out now.. Peace, Bill
