Another just sold for $12,000 (all-in) yesterday at Heritage - described as the much scarcer Leningrad mint issue (Moscow mint being the more common). Housed in an NGC PF70UCAM slab, but with discoloration evident in the fields above the plow handles on the obverse. Not really a perfect coin by any stretch. I have one in the collection, in an old NGC slab without mint attribution, and without the edge viewable where the mint mark is located. I'm wondering if there is any other way to identify the mint without cracking the coin out, perhaps differences in dies between the mints, etc? Assuming there is no way of telling, I am also wondering how much above the normal price realized for a Moscow mint coin would be seen if auctioned off as "possibly" the far more scarce Leningrad mint type? I don't think the PF69 grade hurts it much since at the time it was slabbed the PF70 grade likely didn't exist.
