Recently I found approximately 30 specimens of the 1980 P One Cent piece in a roll at a gas station. All had a nice golden color and appeared uncirculated. Upon inspecting the coins I've found that at least 8 of them have a heavily doubled appearance on the motto and are very different from the remaining coins. The date is doubled as well; on the South and West sides of the digits being where it presents itself.
The spread is not as wide as a 1983 DDR 001 FS.801 by any means but it certainly appears doubled by my comparison. Question for the experts out there: Why is it that under the lense of a the 13 MP camera on my phone VS. my eye through a loupe does the doubling on some coins appear strongly during inspection with the latter? Is it the lighting? I noticed that shadows greatly increase the appearance of certain features not visible in direct light.
