This 1980 LMC Gold toned cent was found by my favorite bank teller when she opened a roll of cents to use as disbursement to customers. She asked me if I could find out what this might be worth if anything at all? I took pictures of the coin for her in the bank, so please excuse the quality, hard to take pics in a bank with customers/lighting etc. Anyway- what do you think might have caused this gold-tone, keeping in mind this is a pre 1982 zinc/cent. Thanks for any help on this!
Probably something like this chem lab experiment. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1262456/make_a_gold_penny/ Jim
Hi, That coin just appears to be toned. It is not unusual for a copper cent to tone a yellowish tint if the coin was stored or housed in a paper or cardboard situation where there was a high amount of sulfur in the paper. Even older original coin wrappers holding uncirculated coins can produce a yellow tint on the coins. The fingerprint on the coin is too clear for the coin to have been plated. I strongly feel that the toning is the issue. Thanks, Bill
