Is this what you call a improper alloy mix? I'm not sure, but here's is a 1980 penny that I think has it, or does it? And is it an error? It may look like scratches but they're not indented.

Looks more like roller marks to me.I don't think its the same thing as a woodie.Still worth a cent anyway;)your choice to keep or spend.

Happens A LOT with late 70s and early 80s cents. I have no idea why. I believe it is an improper allow though.

Here is one that @Cheech9712 sent me a while back.

I believe those are roller marks and not a "woodie" (improper mixed alloy).

Okay, I just learned/heard about improper alloy mix, and I didn't know if this was one. Thank you all!

I’m with the roller marks. Improper alloys then to be not so straight and uniform.

I think they are roller marks also. Lines are to straight and uniform. Late 70's early 80's the mint knew the machinery for making cent planchets was on it's way out. I suspect the upkeep would have been minimal at best. JMO

Edge to edge lines. Are unusually considered roller marks.
