Not sure if this is just old or what. The area where it says "in god we trust", the W looks like it's different or off centred. Any opinions?
it doesn't even look round. Can you take clear, bright photos of both sides ? Can you go to a BRIGHT location, place the coin on a FLAT surface, and then maybe put the cell phone on a box pointed DIRECTLY down at it (not from an angle, but directly down from the lens to the dime). make sure it is far away enough so that it isn't out of focus. Also, have you compared it to other 1980 D dimes? Checked the internet for photos? compare yours against this
Ok I have another dime. 1980 think it's D now I have read some on coins and I don't totally understand everything. I do know 80s may be a big deal and people pass fakes. I wouldn't know the difference tbh in less I go read on it. I just started checking out coins with my son. So give this one a look and tell me what the filled in D is. Tried to take image straight on. Let me know if i can do something better other than new phone lol.
Welcome to CT! When you try to take a photo of the coin. Try to take a photo of both side of the coin, and a close-up of an area in question. From this photo, it look like a little bit of MAD (Misaligned Die). Need to see a photo of reverse.
I'm trying but it keeps saying it's to big to load. I'll try to load again and let you guys do a close look maybe.
go to a bright location. One in which the camera does not need the flash to take a photo. and try to get as close as possible without it being out of focus. any camera has a minimum focus distance so you want to be just a little further than that. Remember, your eyes adjust to differing light conditions far better than any camera/cell phone. Keep practicing. Taking photos of anything from far away makes it difficult to see. When there's a direct light on it you also get bad reflections which takes away from detail. the filled in "D" is probably a die chip.
[QUOTE="Jul, post: 3152624, member: 97163"I do know 80s may be a big deal and people pass fakes.[/QUOTE] The only rare ones to look for from the 80s would be BU 1982/1983 coins I believe. Why would someone fake normal coins from the 1980s?
^^^ Agree. I never heard anything about 1980's dimes being desirable. I assume if you were able to get a 1983 in MS condition, but don't even bother looking for one. Are the 2 coins different? Because as was stated earlier the very first photo, that coin isn't round.
