I have read that the 1980 DDO is scarce. I have looked at different photos. Any comments appreciated and I know it’s possible machine doubling. Thank you.
This coin was perhaps the best example of DDD I ever found. Notice the top of the head, there's DDD all around the portrait, the devices are fat - it's also and example of zincoln planchet lines - pretty cool.
you can see the DDD too above GOD W ... the extension of the letters up to the rim. A true DD would have the GOD WE doubled with consistent spacing between the letters, just shifted. with the GOD WE the extension doubling is like a bicycle wheel radial outwards with spacing not consistent with the die itself.
Don't get too excited. These are easy to find, I've tossed hundreds into the coin star bin. LOL I've only kept this one as a teaching tool.
I wouldn't doubt @BadThad Philly produces many more varieties and errors than Denver. It has always been that way, Or does Denver just have better quality control?
Makes it a bit better if something like this does not come from Denver Mint. Never say never. They have people and machines in Denver too. Thank you
No, I want to find more errors and variety's O' am jealous of the DDO's that Amberlarry Quarter finds. LOL
