198? D dime smooth copper edge

    This dime seems much lighter and thinner than it should be but both sides are nickel can this still be a cladding error? Also there's almost no detail to what's on the coin.     I have one like this and I still don't know what it is.hopefully we both can get an answer .
     
  4. Make sure that you never hold your coins on the obverse and reverse, just on the edge. I'm very sorry to tell you, but it's just a heavily circulated coin. Looks like it was in a dryer for a while. I found a nickel just like that a year ago: http://www.cointalk.com/t127044/

    Well, I think it COULD be a broadstrike, but cookiemonster is most likely correct.
