I won an auction for a 1979-S Proof Kennedy Half Dollar for $3, and I'm just wondering whether or not this was a good deal and what is its potential value? Also, I can't tell what type variety it is, so if anyone can give some feedback based on the provided pictures that would be helpful, thanks.
I can't help you with the type, but $3 is a fair deal. You can usually pickup the entire proof set for $5-$8, but if you are just buying the half, I would expect to pay the $3.
That's the filled S variety, and $3 is a good deal for it. Potential value, these generally don't gain an enormous value over time. Most dealers and B&Ms in my area, have the modern Kennedy proofs in their bargain bins for as much as $3.
