Found this in pocket, according to error ref.com,"Improperly Annealed and D error" Most likely I'm wrong, but at least I'm doing some research before I summit and I did say [Black Beauty/ filled D error] What say you? Keeper I'm I taking better pictures then before?
Improperly Annealed? No Black beauty? No It's just environmental exposure damage to the clad layer. The issue with the D mint mark is either circulation wear or a small Die Chip. Nothing major.
I'm confuse, I've read and compared and I'm still not getting any better in I.D. the coin, I'm reading a lot to learn this coin collecting.Oh wellThanks for all your replies
It's more of a copper color. Not a dark blackish tone. Black Beauty is a description reserved for Nickels with Improper Annealed planchet in the late 1950's Here are some of my metal detected Quarters and a clad Kennedy with environmental exposure toning damage. They are not Improperly Annealed.
@Real Slick Here is a good example of a true Improperly Annealed Nickel from my collection. They were usually found in Mint Rolls. All of them in the roll would look like this. Black Beauty is the nickname.
Thanks for the photo's I'll start looking at these before I post , if you have other error coins I can look at learn from? I could use some on Die cracks and DD more focused on dates like D over S , Rim errors , cuds,. Any way ifyou can . Thanks you all
