Does anyone have any information on brass toned Lincoln cents? I have a 1979 Lincoln cent that is brass toned. I have compared it to 2 brass plated zinc planchet Lincoln cents and they match color wise but have found nothing relating to a 1979 being brass(yellow/gold color).
Science experiment: http://www.nuffieldfoundation.org/practical-chemistry/turning-copper-coins-silver-and-gold That one is for the newer zincolns but I'm pretty sure there is something along the same lines for the older copper coinage too.
With great irony, I also *just* came across the same type of 'yellow' penny from the same year. Have been searching for details; and found nothing. Only your comment relates to my coin (guess we have twins in our collection) but appears to have no responses . . . Guess we both have a mysterious unknown item. ;-D
I just came across a “gold” 1979 penny as well while counting/rolling up my change. The gold color of it is very even on the entire penny. It looks identical to a “normal” penny besides the color. Is there something special as to why it is this color?
You guys won’t believe this but I myself have found a the same coin. Is the mint from Delaware aswell?
