For those thinking toning (possible not probable IMO), I have 500 SBAs from the same batch and this is the only one with a golden luster like this.
Agree...my wife researched these and apparently some were gold plated (why?) and some in 22kt gold plate...value is ???
Little to none above face value........but an interesting addition to ones collection. I've got a gold plated 'Kennedy' around here somewhere.
Gold plating goes back a very long ways actually but today TV hawkers do it on a regular basis. Gold, platinum, rhodium, etc. Maynard Sundman of Littleton Coin Company made it popular by gold plating common wheat cents back in the 40's or 50's as giveaways to those who might be interested in receiving other coins in the mail on "approval". His son David continued this tradition after his father passed away, but as green18 mentioned, it adds little if any value to a coin and done on a high grade coin, basically destroys it collector value otherwise. Strictly novelty items IMHO. But if you like them, by all means, collect what suits your tastes.
