Not to sure on this, but it looks like the top of the 7 of this 1978P Nickel shows signes of Doubling. The coin is very circulated which makes it even harder to tell, and I would think that with the amount of doubling I see, I should see it else where on the coin. As always, all opinion on this are greatly appreciated. Thanks Dave
No mashed up coin, No it's a mashed up coin but interesting though. It's interesting because it took a hit on the top serif of the "7" and certainly looks like a doublED die for a moment on that one number - therein lies the problem - it must be discounted as such because a true doublED die with that kind of spread would show on adjacent ares real quick and your coin does not. When we come to conclusions about this stuff we really do think about it with concrete explanations for our own determinations. Ben Peters
Thanks Ben That is exactly what I thought, in that I should see the doubling on the numbers next to it, with the amount of doubling that appeared to be there. Personally I don't have enough experience myself to make a solid call, that is the main reason I placed this particular coin here, to get the opinion of those with much more experienced then myself. Thanks again Dave
