Well, that coin is AG at best, almost PO, so the answer is...maybe.

I only consider a coin a good deal if I walk away happy that I got it. Honestly, you didn't do bad.

Don't use the Redbook for a price guide, use Ebay past auctions, or Heritage.

Monkeyman, That coin is AG and scratched. But for the $7 you paid for it, it fills a void and you can upgrade at a later time, if you want to. Enjoy your new coin.

Greysheet Bid/Ask for the coin is $19/$21 in Good-4. That coin has AG details with a few gouges. I say that you didn't do too badly, but what matters is that you are satisfied with the piece as an addition to your set.

I agree with what everyone said....if you're happy with the coin, then it was a good deal. If you have to second-guess your purchases, you may want to hold-off till you feel comfortable with a certain price for a certain piece. But, for $4.25, it's hard to go wrong with a 130 year old piece of history.
