Hello everyone! Hope all is well....I've found a 1978 D Washington Quarter that seems like it is just PMD but maybe it's a worn die or something else?

Your thoughts are much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

    2015 - 1978 = 37
37 years of circulation will cause much wear and tear on a Quarter :nailbiting:

Hey there! I had a good assumption it is PMD!

You know what? I never thought of it that way. That all the billions, maybe trillions of US coins in circulation that have all that wear and tear are in a sense PMD :wideyed:

Dies wear the opposite of coins-the low areas rather than the high areas. So the fields and lettering would be affected first. You would see distorted-low lying, stretched out letters and maybe orange peel on the fields.

Even if it was a worn die, I doubt it would be worth more than a quarter.

This is why it baffles me that all these 30-40 year old coins *which have been circulated for that long* keep getting posted asking what kind of error it is.

Please don't take my comment as a put down here @Danielle Skasko. You at least roll with the answers you get...some folks around here just refuse to believe that the damage on a 35 year old circulated coins is nothing less than an error...

No way! I totally agree with you on that one! You never know what is out there old or new!
