1977 sets

    i have 2 1977 sets, the ones with the eisenhower dollar coins. one set has a "d" mark and the other doesnt. why does that one have no marks. also, the nickel in the set with no marks has a somewhat golden look to it

    It sounds like you have a 1977 mint set. A mint set consists of one coin of each denomination struck for circulation at the Philadelphia and Denver mints. Coins from the Denver mint have a D mint mark, and coins from the Philadelphia mint didn't have any mint mark until 1979-1980.

    The nickel is probably just toning.

    I agree with Charlie....I bet that around the edge of the plastic holder their are in....one is red around the rim....and the other one is blue!

    And the other thing is that these plastic mint holders are not completely airtight so your "no mark" Philadelphia set has gotten a little bit tarnished and the other has not.This accounts for the gold color.
