I found a quarter from 1977 that appears that something has turned on the top of it. There is a swirl mark starting on top of "In God" and stops under the letter L in Liberty. Also the top of Washington's head appears to have suffered from the swirl mark also. I hope the pictures show this.. Eric
Offhand, I would think it is PMD, but you need to remove the coin from whatever case or cover it is in before you take any photos. Chris
Chris the funny thing is that is a magnifying glass under my Samsung phone to try and get a close pic. So do I chalk this to wear possibly......
Some people use a jeweler's loupe to magnify images so you can place the camera lens very close to the loupe. You can't do the same thing with a magnifying glass, and you usually end up with very poor images. There are USB Microscopes available online which are not very expensive, but the cheapest ones are usually junk. I was very happy using my stereomicroscope, but they aren't cheap. Chris

Sometimes we just need the close-up of a certain area, other times we need a full coin image of one or both sides and, of course, there are those times when we need full-coin and partial-coin images for orientation purposes. Chris
The old twist dispensers for candy machines / gumball machines still use place & crank knob technology, by which leaves gouges and scratches in a circular pattern on coins sometimes. That machine crank mechanism gives me nightmares, lol.
