Every six months I sort and roll all of the pocket change I have collected. I found this while sorting and wonder if it is as the title says. It looks to me like copper shard(s) were lying on the obverse of photo (1).JPG photo.JPG photo (3).JPG planchet when it was struck. Best pic I could get with I-phone and loupe. I hope that someone can tell me more. Thanks. View attachment 279150

I'm I noob, but I thought these were some sort of planchet error, poorly made stock or something.

It's hard to say for sure what is wrong with coins from just photos , I would guess that your coin was struck on a improper annealed planchet.

It doesn't show well in the pic, but the copper area right below Jefferson's collar is very brightly copper colored, like a shiny new Lincoln Cent.

that's the right way for a improper annealed coin to look. they always have some of the dark color along with the copper. the more copper they have the better I like them.
