I was looking through my loose change the other day (im a college student, and to me, that's how REAL college students procrastinate! ) Well, I came across a 1976D dime, and noticed that the "us" in "pluribus" is missing between the torch and the stalk of the right-hand stalk. however, the first "u" in "unum" is there, but just barely. would this be an error?
It is likely the result of the coin being struck by a filled die. It is a very common occurrence. Debris, often grease gets into the recesses of the die. Hydraulics causes the grease to act like a solid and when the coin is struck, details of the design that are filled on the die do not strike up on the coin. Thanks, Bill
Bill - is that found in rolls website yours? It is excellent! I was looking for Ike examples and it turned up in Google. Ruben
