I read an old forum on here about this penny but never saw a definitive answer on the rarity of the coin, but I'd like to get some answers on it if possible. I have a 1975D silver penny with the liberty bell on one side and an outline of USA on the other. There were discussions on if it was plated or if it was pressed on a dime print. Not sure what any of that means but attached are photos of my penny. Please fill me in on what I have and whether it's truly rare or do I have something made out of boredom.
It is a novelty item. A cent was stamped with the images of the Liberty Bell and the U.S. It was then plated (likely chrome). It appears to have been done in celebration of the U.S. Bicentennial. It is not rare or valuable.
First, welcome to the neighborhood @Coincidence ! It would be a lot easier for some of us blind old farts if you would crop your photos first, resize them and then select "Full Image" rather than using the "Thumbnail". I agree with @Lawtoad that it is not an original finish, and it may even have been dipped in mercury. This was a common classroom experiment back in the day. Chris
The definitive answer I will give you is this.. Because it is not rare but common. Only because it is not silver. And the previous posts tell you why. Just like the Kennedy on Lincoln Cent - Yours is a novelty item -

They are known as novelty cents. A few weeks ago I got one with California on it. Easy to buy and very common.
Yes, I know that, but often, even the enlargement is not very big. That is why it is best to crop your photo, first, then resize it and use the "Full Image" option. The "Thumbnail" option really sucks especially when there are multiple images to assess. If the reader wants to add comments after viewing an image, he/she must close the image, post comments and then reopen the next image. It's a pain in the ass. Chris
