So I looked it up and I saw something about a company gold plating them and marking them with "12-31-74" over the year 1975 but mine dosent have that date anywhere on the coin

Many have been done. Nothing scarce and not really collectible. It actually ruins the collectibility of the coin since it is post-mint damage.

Over the years there have been countless merchants polishing, plating and counterstamping coins to add to curio objects of one sort or another. In all cases it renders the coin as damaged from a numismatic perspective.

Your coin was gold plated after it left the mint.

On 12/31/74, Roosevelt's order calling in gold was repealed. The coin you reference is probably some gold plated aftermarket piece sold to the public to commemorate that event. It's a novelty coin and really doesn't have any significant value.

Any gold layer would be so thin there would be no monetary value , even if you could remove it.
