    Good afternoon CTC,

I ran across this 1974 S Lincoln cent that seems to have doubling on the date, however, I cannot find any reference to such an anomaly on copper coins or in the
CPG. Worn or deteriorating die? Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for ALL of the help!

To me the 9 looks to be machine doubling

To me also. There are only a handful of actual doubled dies coins that have mechanical doubling also. We see a lot of MD because people notice it and think it is valuable, but is a high frequency compared to a true DD. I only know of just a few cases where a true DD has doubling in both the coin details and the mint mark (RMP), so that is an indication to me when I may be on a borderline when buying for myself.
