1974 Quarter missing clad i guess........

    1974 Quarter missing clad i guess........Pic added!

    it is dark grey in color even on reeding and it weighs .1940 oz compared to .2020 oz on reg. looking quarter does it have any value ??

    Well if it were missing the clad layer it would be copper colored - not grey. But the weight sure creates questions. It's possible it is a coin struck on a foriegn planchet. Post some pics if you can. There are books available that list foriegn coins struck by the US and when. Someone might be able to look it up for you and provide a more definitive answer.

    It is possible that it was in or very close to a fire and the heat caused a chemical change or just damaged the cladding! Can you post some closeups of both the Obverse and Reverse of the coin?

    That is typically referred to as environmental damage. A coin that falls out of a persons pocket and is exposed to the elements for a period of time. A coin missing a clad layer has a very distinctive look. Take a photo and begin a thread and you can get some good feedback.
