I decency found a 1974 penny with a doubled rim. Nothing else on the coin is doubled from what i can tell. Does anyone have any idea on a value for this coin?
Simple double struck coins are very common in the early 70s. Post a pic and we will be able to tell you more about the one you have.
I don't know if I'll be able to get a pic, I have a junky camera and my moms isn't swirling very well either.
without seeing a picture, I'd guess you have a misaligned die (MAD) strike. Very common on penny's in the early 70's, and led to what looks like a double rim - but only on one side of the coin, usually the obverse.
If heads is observe which I think it is, never can remember, haha your exactly right I've found about 7 of them now all on their heads side and all from the early 70's
They are cool, and I think a collection of one of these from every year in the 1970's would be really awesome, but it is worth exactly one cent.
elijah, A double-struck coin is a coin that was struck twice by the dies. A double-strike is a pretty good error to find. If the rim is the only thing that is doubled then it is unlikely you have a double-struck coin.
