Happy Sunday all. I just found this coin in a roll this morning. I was wondering what you guys think about this coin. It looks really nice but I dont know if it is a true error. Is this a PMD
Not an error that's a counterstamp(damage)but still neat. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/counterstamp#:~:text=noun,2 : a numismatic countermark
not sure but Ive seen double struck coins, wrong reserve or obverse on a coin. I guess I need a lot more learning to do.
It’s called a counter stamp. Not an error by any means as it was applied after it left the mint. It’s considered damage but there are collectors of counter stamped coins. People like me for example. I do limit myself to the ones on early coinage up to and including the Civil War.
Thank, I just saw a few examples of the counter stamp. I just saw ebay listing and People actually collect these type of coins.
I maybe wrong but this looks like the opposite of counterstamped. I see raised metal and not indented. My eyes are old but anyone else see this? Can counterstamped mean a raised stamp?
M has a straight line on the left and right post. A W is leaning outwards. Turn is upside down and it just doesn’t look right, at least to me.
