1974 dime sized penny

    This penny is the exact size of a dime, weighes 3.08 grams and has bilateral capped sides. Some of the letters are printed onto the wall of the cap.The letters are neatly printed, not smeared or gouged.

    Looks like someone was trying to make a ring but realized it wasn't even and stopped.

    Possibly a "Dryer coin" or one in a different situation where it was subjected to a rotational force that pushed the rim in and over. Post Mint damage, but fun to have.

    This coin looks like it has been spooned or beaten to death with a small hammer. Note that the "4" in the date is "out of shape" (for lack of a better description)......PMD

    I agree with Chris that the coin has been spooned , the rim is widened out too much to be a dryer coin. just imagine how long it would take for someone to do this with a spoon or other metal object. these type coins are usually done by prisoners or someone with lots of time on their hands. the spooned coins usually end up as rings if they get completed.
