So I came across this today, I've seen alot and in not here to ask about the Kennedy stamp or whatever it may be, not sure of what process puts those on there. But asking about the Doubling on Obverse, in date ( the seven has me wondering) , Lincolns eye the lettering across top as well as major and smaller cracks throughout the reverse and some Doubling appearing on ONE CENT. ALL OFF THIS I GUESS COULD HAVE CAME FROM WHATEVER WHATEVER IS DONE TO PUT KENNEDY ON THE COIN.
All large date show some form of doubling . http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1974&die_id=1974d1do002&die_state=mds
The process is called a Counterstamp done after it leaves the US Mint and made as a novelty.. Now you know!
Walter if the coin had even a minute numismatic value. It was lost when the Kennedy counterstamp was added to it.
that counterstamp is hideous. Go to one of the sites that list the "markers". If the markers arent there, chances of having a true DD are less than getting stuck by lighting 5 times in one day. There are so many coins that look like DD to the average person that doesnt do this full time. The most sure fire way to research is to simply find the die markers. I have found one true DD in circulation and it "looked" just as they all do to me with clear signs of doubling. I verified it before even posting here by finding multiple site listings for the die markers. Die markers present = DD. Some will say Wexlers isnt great but to me it shows clear pictures and descriptions of die markers for alot of coins you run across.
