Hey folks wondering if you can help with any insight regarding the coin I have here. I've never seen a stamp above the coin date with a city name and older date before. Any idea what this penny may be all about.and possibly the value? Thanks so much.
Nice 74. Somebody counter stamped it my guess is it would be worth a buck or three to a collector that lives there.
Is there a date in Springfield History that correlates to why they stamped it. It could turn into a cool history lesson. And could add some value.
West Springfield was founded in1774. My friend's grandmother had this penny in her collection for a long time.

It was the year of incorporation of the town/city. Celebration of separation of West Springfield from mother Springfield. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Springfield,_Massachusetts
It's only worth what someone that collects counter stamped coins would be willing to pay for it. But don't think it has a high premium.
It’s known as a Novelty Coin. Thousands of different designs are known. They are counter stamped after leaving the mint and from a collecting viewpoint, it is damaged. They are highly collectible in their own right.
