    Hi,

I'd appreciate it if someone with better trained eyes than I take a look at this penny date and mint mark. I'm not sure if the D was stamped over something else or it's doubled slightly. I appreciate the time and feedback as I learn to spot these things.

    Thanks,
    Angie

    Hi! And, welcome to CoinTalk!:D
I can see some slight doubling on that D, but I'm a relitavely new collecter, so I can't give you an average price. There's doubling alright. Good find!

Its not doubling.....but it might be a RPM.....I'm looking in my RPM book and they list about 5 but I think this is RPM#2.....as for value....it could be a few cents to a few dollars.

It looks like a "D" over slanted "D" as the secondary Mint Mark appears to be oriented from NorthNorthwest to SouthSoutheast instead of North to South! If verified as such, it isn't on Coneca's list but may be listed elsewhere.

I've never heard of RPM before, but I looked it up! This is great information from everyone - I'm having a blast learning this stuff!

How many RPM's are out there anyway? And what does the #2 stand for?

    THANKS

    Angie,

Coneca and others number the RPM's as they are found and entered into the books!

There are many many many RPM's.....#2 means that it is the 2nd one in the book ;) .....the first one RPM1 doesn't look like yours...the D is alittle more to the north IIRC....then #2 looks like yours and #3 looks nothing like either one before....and so on and so forth!

Good suggestion is to look up things like that on the coppercoins.com web site. Better yet if your at a coin show buy the book written by the guy that has that web site. It is called Looking Through Lincolns. That guy has taken virtually thousands of pictures of Lincoln Cents and has many of them in his book. He also discribes all the different types of errors such as RPM.
